Taur Mittran Di received moderate opening of 22 lacs. The film did average at the premium multiplexes but was below the mark elsewhere. It would have been a good opening a year back but the growth in Punjabi Cinema Industry means that anything less than 30 lakhs for a major release is disappointing. In comparison “Mirza – The Untold Story” released earlier did massive business of around 60 lacs.

The Punjabi film Taur Mittran Di took an average opening across. Film is expected to perform better during weekend.

The teaser went online Thursday and it has also been released with the film ‘Ishaqzaade’ on Friday. Anurag Kashyap describes it as “intriguing”, while Preity Zinta says Salman “rocks” in it.

The trailer suggests the Yash Raj Films (YRF) production is about intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan, and narrates the story of an agent named Tiger, essayed by Salman.

The trailer is purely action based, and hints at the core idea of the film. However, the romance bit of the film is not shown in the teaser as there is not a single footage of Salman with his co-star Katrina Kaif in it.

Nevertheless, it has hit the right chords with industry members, critics and trade analysts, who have lauded the teaser, which has Salman firing guns, jumping from quite a height, fighting ruthlessly and ultimately, walking with an intense look on his face.

Kashyap tweeted: “‘Ek Tha Tiger’ trailer is super awesome… very slick and very intriguing… super curious now… and envious… jaldi dikhao (show it quick) sir.”

Preity wrote: “Saw the trailer of EK THA TIGER n Omg! Salman Rocksss!!!”

Filmmaker Goldie Behl was also all praise for the teaser, which jammed the YouTube view meter within three minutes of its launch and caused the YRF server to be in danger of crashing, according to Khan.

“‘Ek Tha Tiger’ teaser is awesome! Very rarely do we see commerce and art woven so seamlessly together kabirkhankk has rocked it,” tweeted Behl.

Film critic Anupama Chopra, a Shah Rukh Khan loyalist is in awe of Salman after watching the trailer.

“Loved the trailer of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Think I am finally ready to convert to the cult of Salman,” Chopra said in her feedback, while film critic Taran Adarsh wrote: “‘Ek Tha Tiger’: It’s the Baap of all promos. AWESOME. This one will shatter every record in sight. Await the new hurricane by.”

Khan, who has earlier directed ‘Kabul Express’ and ‘New York’, is happy with the response.

“Thank you for the overwhelming response to ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ teaser,” he tweeted.

The film, which will also see Katrina indulging in some daredevilry, is slated for an Eid release this year.

Whilst one of them has an authoritative position, the other being new to college life challenges this authority. They both have beautiful girl friends who are real sisters. Hockey connects them & they join hands to take up the mission to save hockey showcasing Youth Power.

Navanait’s “Mel Karade Rabba” showcased Hockey in somewhat negative aspects But in this movie, he has overcome that and showed Hockey in flying colors. Amrinder Gill is seen in new avatar with toned body as an action hero to portray character in right spirits, he surely has improved a lot as an actor and spoke his native Punjabi dialect. Rannvijay didn’t have much to do in his last Punjabi movie Navaniat’s Dharti. But this time he really picked up and gratified his fan following (sporting his Casio G shock watches), Still he has lot to do. Lady’s luck played by Surveen Chawla & Amita Pathak did pretty good job in their precise domain and pleased many eyes esp. Surveen (She’s certainly good prospect for Punjabi Movies). Mukesh Rishi was directors’ character and stayed within his role of Hockey Player and Coach. Comedy was integral part of the movie played amazingly by B.N Sharma, Binnu Dhillon and Rana Ranbir, they all are such a talent, at one point seemed they are actual leads of the movie as humor creating by them took movie to all together different levels. Binnu is applauded by audience with shouting of infamous dialogues “Tusi taan Serious” and “Pinky Moge Wali”. B.N Sharma was at his humor best with Kakkar Kukdiyan wala and Rana Ranbir with Anshu in  “No Touch” dialogue.

2012’s most awaited movie along with “Mirza- The Untold Story” is “Taur Mittran Di”, both were even showcased at “PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2012”. Mirza- The Untold Story received mixed response across and now all eyes are on “Taur Mittran Di” as success & response of both would certainly define the outlook of progressive Punjabi cinema industry. Taur Mittran Di is complete youth oriented masala flick entertainer, most part of movie is shot in locations around Amritsar & Taran Taaran, Songs in particular are beautifully shot in exotic locations of Ladakh. Good amount of work is done in editing which at times seemed too much and took naturality of the movie. Expectations from Navaniat Singh after delivering successful movies in the past are already high but he was circumscribed by scope and script. Overall “Taur Mittran Di” is good time pass masala entertainer with good music, social message, youth power which at times will inspires and challenge thoughts.

Punjabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is now the costliest pop artist in Bollywood. The Angreji Beat singer has charged Rs. 70 lakh for a song in a film titled Mastaan, starring Naseerudin Shah and his younger son Vivaan. It is the biggest amount paid to a song artist in Bollywood till date.

Singh has turned hot property after shooting to fame with his latest album, International Villager. Many tracks from the compilation are topping music lists such as world iTunes and BBC Asian charts.
The film’s producer Sunil Bohra confirms that Honey Singh has been roped in with a hefty fee. “Honey has become a household name after International Villager. I instantly fell in love with the song (that Singh composed and he plans to feature in the movie) as soon as I heard it. Though he wanted to launch that song as one of his own big hits, now, it will prove a game changer for my movie. I feel Rs. 70 lakh is less for it … I would have signed him for more if it was required,” he says.

Bohra has decided to shoot two videos of the song … one for the movie and the other, featuring Singh, for the promotions.
Honey has apparently sung the song in Hindi, not Punjabi, and it is expected to be released in two weeks from now. “I have paid more than 10 times of what we pay our usual singers because I am sure that the song will be a blockbuster and will prove beneficial for my movie,” says Bohra.

Although Naseeruddin Shah has worked in the past(2007) with Shoaib Mansoor in super hit film Khuda Ke Liye but Zinda Bhaag will be his debut film.The film is both in Urdu and Punjabi but his dialogues are mostly in Punjabi.

“Zinda Bhaag” is a film based on the subject of illegal immigration. This is a big problem in Pakistan and India because overpopulation and lack of opportunities makes people desperate to flee to supposedly greener pastures. There are people in this business who lure unemployed youth with false promises of money and luxury and send them abroad illegally. The subject of the film is very good and it deals with different issues that stem from the crime of illegal immigration.

The film is directed by Meenu and Farjad and produced by Mazhar Zaidi.The film is expected to release in 2013.

The four-day extravaganza will feature a lineup of international feature films, short films and documentaries from around the world on themes of Punjabi culture and identity. PIFF will include glamorous gala events, film parties, concerts, workshops, seminars and much more as it celebrates South Asian Heritage Month and the Punjabi community in Toronto, Brampton and Mississauga.

Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajan Mann has become a prominent figure in the revitalization of Punjabi cinema.
